Baby elephant makes public debut

A baby Asian elephant has become a major attraction at Chester Zoo after making its first public appearance just days after its birth.
Born to mother Sithami, 13, and father Upali, 16, at the weekend, the yet-unnamed male calf stepped into the enclosure for the first time on Wednesday.
Hundreds of visitors stood around the paddock to get a glimpse of the new arrival, who already weighs an impressive 110kg.
Staff said he basked in the sunshine and the public attention for a while before going back into the elephant house for a nap.
Zoo spokeswoman Rachel Ashton said: "Today was his first run out into the paddock so there was a great deal of excitement among the staff and visitors."
