Windsurfer sets watersports record

Windsurfer sets watersports record

A champion windsurfer has set a new record after completing 21 watersports in a single day along 10 miles of Dorset coastline.

Guy Cribb took part in events including kayaking, kite surfing, stand-up paddle-boarding, bodyboarding, water-skiing, jet-skiing and sailing between Bournemouth and Poole.

The 40-year-old has more than two decades of windsurfing experience and is a 13-time UK champion.

He won his first youth champion title in 1988 and 20 years later he became the first person to windsurf across the Channel, covering 70 miles from Cherbourg to Poole.

Speaking after his latest triumph, Mr Cribb said: "I'm more tired than I thought I would be. To do so many sports in a day is immense, rushing between them and coordinating everything."

The challenge was organised by tourism officials to promote the number of watersports that can be done in Bournemouth and Poole.

Mr Cribb added: "It's a Poole and Bournemouth record, I can't really claim it for myself. It's all about the fact that you can do so many sports in this area.

"Perhaps some of the big coastal cities like Sydney could potentially have all these but probably not within a 10-mile coastline. I doubt anywhere else in the world could boast the same facilities as Poole and Bournemouth."
