Pub staff change name to Rooney
07 Jun 10
Staff at a Yorkshire pub have lent support to the England squad's World Cup campaign by changing their names to Wayne Rooney.
Not to be outdone, managers Lee and Lorraine Kennedy at the Bay Horse in East Ardsley are calling themselves Fabio Capello.
The new identities of the pub's 15 employees are officially recorded on certificates from the UK Deed Poll Service.
Kitchen staff member Wayne Rooney, formerly Joanne Hill, 23, said: "The managers wanted to do something so we all sat down and decided to do this. It's to show our support for England and show how much we're behind them."
She said the move has been a big hit with pub regulars, providing them with a steady source of amusement.
"They think it's ace. They shout Wayne and we all turn around. They love it and think it's really funny."
Ms Rooney said the name change, which cost each of them £33, will stay in place until the end of the World Cup.
She added: "It has not been a hassle at all - we could change birth certificates and driving licences but because it is only temporary nobody is going to."
