Olympic dogs put through paces
19 Mar 10
Ten sniffer dogs who have been newly recruited for Olympic Games security duties showed of their skills at Stratford International station in east London.
The dogs, three of whom have been rescued from animal shelters, will be employed at important railway stations during the 2012 London Olympics.
They are to join an existing team from the British Transport Police's (BTP) search dog section.
Transport minister Paul Clark said their contribution would be crucial for the smooth progress of the Games.
He added: "These new dogs and their handling team will help ensure the safety of the thousands of visitors we are expecting at London 2012.
"Seeing the dogs and their handlers in action, I was impressed at how unobtrusively they go about their work. This is vital, as stations are expected to be very busy and we must provide security with minimal disruption to the travelling public.
"We expect everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Olympic Games but of course we have to take security precautions."
