Cornish fishermen win album deal

A group of Cornish fishermen who have secured a deal with music company Universal to record sea shanties are aiming to top the charts.
The Fisherman's Friends, from Port Isaac, are said to have scooped the £1 million worth deal after record producer Rupert Christie spotted them singing in a pub while he was on holiday.
The group of 10, who are or have been fishermen, lifeboatmen and coastguards, are set to release an album of traditional tunes and folk songs next month as well as perform at the Glastonbury Festival.
Initially, the group had plans of releasing the album Port Isaac's Fisherman's Friends under its own label Marine Records.
For Universal, which released an album of tunes by brass bands this month, the deal follows a series of unusual album hits in recent years including albums by the Fron Male Voice Choir and the Coldstream Guards.
The troupe have been performing in the fishing village of Port Isaac for more than 15 years, particularly they conduct shows every week on the harbour front of the village during the summer.
