Afghan mission couple to marry

A military couple who met in Afghanistan while fighting the Taliban will tie the knot this summer, it has been revealed.

L Cpl Anna Harris and Cpl Mark Ingram started dating in June 2007 at Camp Bastion.

Dog trainer Anna, 22, and sniper Mark, 29, had their first date over a mug of Army ration coffee.

In the weeks of fighting that followed, Cpl Mark attacked in an ambush on patrol while L Cpl Anna and her black Labrador Sparky were searching vehicles and roads for IEDs and weapons.

The 22-year-old from Basildon, Essex, recalls: "I first met Mark at Lashkar Gah and I don't think he liked me much. He told me he thought I was pretty but a bit arrogant. I wasn't one of the lads he could order about.

"Yes, I liked Mark but I let him know I wasn't going to be pushed around just because he was a sniper and section commander."

Cpl Mark, from Nottingham, proposed her earlier this year. He said: "We just got on really well from the start. We used to talk for hours in the evenings in the cookhouse. I know it's a strange place to meet - but it's worked out brilliantly."
