Corrie stage show to mark anniversary

Corrie stage show to mark anniversary

The past 50 years of Coronation Street is going to be made into a new stage show to mark the hit ITV soap's golden anniversary.
Coronation Street Abridged Live! is to open in August at the Lowry Theatre in Salford before going on a tour across the UK.
The two-hour show, which is being written by Coronation Street scriptwriter Jonathan Harvey, is to summarise more than 7,000 episodes and 2,000 storylines.
Past popular characters Ena Sharples, Hilda Ogden, Bet Lynch and Curly Watts, as well as villains Richard Hillman, Alan Bradley and Tracy Barlow, will be featured in the play, but they will not be played by present or past cast members.
Kieran Roberts, Coronation Street's executive producer, who will oversee the stage show, said: "I'm thrilled at the prospect of bringing to life on stage all the great stories and characters of 50 years of Coronation Street and I'm sure the play will be a real treat for Corrie fans as well as a great night out in the theatre."
The stage show is not connected to the Corrie musical project, which is still under discussion, sources from the street said.
