Astronaut maze honours Apollo crew

A farmer in York has marked the 40th anniversary of the first moon landings by carving out a giant astronaut-shaped maze.
The image, more than 300 metres (1,000ft) long, was created by 38-year-old Tom Pearcy in his maize field on the outskirts of York.
It offers visitors nearly 10 kilometres of intricate pathways to explore and is believed to be the largest in Europe and among the biggest in the world.
Mr Pearcy says the artworks are an annual project for him and he aims to be topical when choosing the design. This year the honour was reserved for Apollo 11’s landmark mission to the moon in 1969.
He said: “Each year I try to choose a maze design which is both topical and makes a great aerial image.
“Marking the 40th anniversary of the first manned flight to the moon is my personal tribute to the endeavour and bravery of those lunar pioneers.”
His previous designs include the Statue of Liberty, the Starship Enterprise and the Flying Scotsman locomotive.
