OAP receives award for bravery

OAP receives award for bravery

A pensioner who was stabbed twice when trying to stop a thief has said that his actions were not down to bravery.
Former airborne soldier Michael Seery, 68, was honoured by the National Police Public Bravery Awards in Manchester along with 67 others across from the country.
The retired Kent policeman said: “Bravery is nothing to do with it. I am an ex-soldier and your training comes with it. Somebody is in trouble and you automatically go into overdrive.”
Mr Seery, who is blind in one eye, was trying to tackle a thief making away with stolen cash during a raid at a branch of Corals in Farnborough, Hampshire.
The thief escaped the lengthy struggle, but Mr Seery managed to pull off the thief’s helmet after kicking him. Staff identified the man and he was later jailed for nine years.
Among the other recipients of the award was a woman who shielded a baby from a dangerous Rottweiler, people who had intervened in armed robberies, and those who saved others from burning cars.
